In a railroad publicity photo set in forbidding Western scenery, Union Pacific's Challenger, train 108, rounds a curve with EMD E7A 930 in the lead. The photo was taken around 1947; unit 930 was delivered to the UP in 1946 but the Challenger was discontinued in 1947 and 930 was renumbered to 989 in 1948. Note that the train number has been airbrushed onto the locomotive's number board, so this might actually be a different train. 930's original number was CP-1, suggesting that it was intended to replace the M10004 which was taken out of service on the City of Portland early in 1947. The single track rules out this scene as being anywhere east of Ogden, Utah, on the Challenger's route.
