Appearing in 1936 at Cornwall-on-Hudson, New York is 2-8-2 No. 3787 of class H5f shortly before its renumbering to 1282 — which number it bore until 1948, when it assumed number 1524. This engine was the last of its subclass, and among the last NYC steam locomotives, to be retired, holding out until the middle of 1957. Like other H5s she was a rebuild from a G5 Consolidation, delivered by Alco in 1913 as No. 2612. These Mikados had cylinder dimensions of 25x32-inches and sustained 180 pounds of boiler pressure. With a locomotive weight of 289,300 pounds, they exerted 48,570 pounds of tractive effort to which a booster added 9,900 pounds. The photographer's identity is unknown, but the image came from the collection of Wayne Koch.
